In Shipwreck IV, Kcho places the viewer at the most critical moment of the maritime journey: the instant when the vessel ceases to function as a means of transport and becomes a space of uncertainty. The composition brings together bodies and fragments of objects floating among the remains of the boat, constructing a scene marked by tension and movement. Through the use of pastel and charcoal, the work heightens the dramatic dimension of shipwreck as a metaphor for the fragility inherent in any process of displacement. Exhibited at Marlborough Gallery, New York, the piece deepens one of the most significant lines in the artist’s practice.
