ARTISTIC COMMENTARY

Creating a landscape with the very components of the landscape, as an act of recognition, without any form of aggression toward the natural world, has been a concern in my work, shaped by my love for Cuban nature, its mystique, and its materials.
The materials with which I create these pieces are gathered through a process in which knowledge of each material is essential, always beginning from the symbolic structure of each work. This approach is far removed from any industrial method, relying instead on an artisanal making process with raw matter.
In the work that concerns me here today, Plan Jaba, I engage with popular traditions in a manner akin to Cuban basketry, charged with strong symbolism, where the materials acquire a new associative dimension in order to convey complex perceptions through a transformative vision, revitalizing certain values of Cuban identity.
